  • Hey Ronndo! I'm Emptylord, and I'm the Fandom Wiki Manager for Wakfu Wiki. I introduced myself on your Boards, but just wanted to drop you a message personally since you're one of the more active editors around here. Basically, if you have any questions relating to the wiki, I hope to be your first point of contact.

  • Trying to figure out who to talk to for help on updating some of this site's stuff.  Even if you don't maintain things, if you can point me in a direction that'd be awesome, dropped same message on BdeBoer.

Started editing various pages to try to get them up to date, learning the setup for the site has taught me that "Craft Usage" tables are useful and frustrating.  Wheat Straw is a good example, linking to plenty of items you can't make any more.  I'm unsure if the items still exist in game or simply can't be made anymore, and i don't feel comfortable deleting the pages or heavily editing crafting materials to make these items, even if they're not currently used.

      Loading editor
    • Well, the craft usage sections use dpl to search pages so the only way to update them is the update the individual pages that link to the material...or messing with the parameters so it does not pick up items in a certain category.

Maybe mark items that no longer in the game with Template:Old or Template:Removed to make it known that the item in longer in the game and then change the dpl to not pick up items from that category?

    • Sorry for bugging you again, and waiting so long between replies.  Been having issues with the site, not sure if it's the site or just my browser+extensions.

I've only been able to make edits thus far, thanks to having guides, reference points/examples, and via help and such.  I'm afraid i'm not sure how to change dpl, or if i even can.  Edited Wheat Flour to have Template:Removed., but i haven't figured out what to edit on Wheat Grain's table to make it exclude Wheat Flour.  I've been unable to find any help that is relevant to what i'm doing, or if it is i've been unable to properly comprehend it i guess.

On a related note, added Clover Root Beer as a craftable item with Wheat Grain, and learned that finding the image for those items by hand, is real nasty.  Do you know of an easier way to find images and/or IDs, rather than simply eyeballing each image in the inventory directory?

If you wish to contact me on Discord; Tonkatunk#7079

  • Hey Ronndo,

Im just starting on the wikia, and was thinking that is should be cool if spells should have tooltips.

This way The class pages will have more information but less text, what is your look on this and/or do you have anything else in mind for the class pages?

I am sadly not able to create templates myself, i can only edit them.

      Loading editor
    • If you mean something like the entire Template:WData/Spell box to pop up when you hover over the spell name on the class page (range, restrictions, damage numbers), I think that would be useful and allow people to get more details of the spell that are not on the class page. I am pretty sure it is possible to do, but I am not very good with html/css coding so I do not have much exprenice with the templates on wikia. Although I will try and see if I can come up with something.

As far as on the effect/description section of each spell used to be more tooltips,Template:State, in the class pages but the template for it is kind of wonky and it requires you to put in the information for the state inside of the template page itself before using it so I do not use it much. You are welcome to try and use the new Template:WTooltip/Default that Socapex made on the class pages to make the effects section have less text.

        Loading editor
    • Decided to give making the spell tooltip a shot,Template:WTooltip/Spell, it was basically copy and paste from Template:WTooltip/Item (the old Template:Item). I still do not have a clear understanding on how it works though, I just know it uses ajax to grab the appropriate template used on the page.

Edit: since the spell data boxes are so large the tooltip tends to go off the page, I will try and find a fix or work around for it.

  • Hello Ronddo,

I've learned from my sources that you are the current last active admin, so I would like to ask you the BIG question.

I've been editing every day since I've started Wakfu and I've earned quite a few badges. I noticed that there are not a lot of active admins on Wakfu Wiki, so I believe I would be the perfect candidate to become an administrator. I'm currently editing more than 10 pages a day.

I will assume that if you do not respond to my message that you are inactive for now. After a week I'll try to post an Adoption Request in the Adoption Request page.

    Thank you in advance,

    A fellow editor

    • Oh forgot you were using visual editor. Well I just removed the Template:Prettytable and replaced it with its actual text ,class=wakfutable. Should be able to edit it through the visual editor now.

  • So, I am almost done here with the cleanup. What remains are harder/more important things I did not want to mess up.

    - Finish tooltips conversion.

    - Items and Monsters.

I believe the spell and class side of things are taken care of (mostly by you). I will concentrate on monsters and gathering. I want to pitch off an idea to you:

MonsterCards are currently suboptimal, trapper and spell-wise. They look great, but I want to make sure every page at least has the resources you can gather from a monster. My idea: I will create a WData template for monster families. These will have the monster family drops (female + male). That way all monster pages can get the info from there. Currently, the vast majority of monstercard pages don't even list the monster drops.

In an effort to create more dynamic pages/tables/lists, I also want to create a new "card" template for Resource Tiles. These are for plants/trees/ore tiles. With these in place, creating dynamic lists/tables/links becomes a reality.

    Thoughts? Objections? Ideas?

    Good day o/

    • Ok thanks for clarifications.

Just so you know, I have bad news. I was playing wakfu waiting for some friends I game with. We live in Quebec, for some reason they are server locked on Phaeris, I am locked on Nox.

Ankama support sucks balls, so we wont be able to play together, which means I wont be playing wakfu anymore. The game is going to die anyways since you can't play with friends. Good luck with the wiki, I will finish the renaming but after that I'll be gone.

      o/

        Loading editor
    • Well that is unfortunate :(

Thanks for all the template work (No way I could have done all of that lol), and I hope you will eventually be able to play with your friends and come back.

  • Hi, I need you to publicly approve my bot: socapex-bot. This way I can get it a bot flag.

Or, you could just make me admin, I think I've proven my capabilities and that I can most definitely get this wiki back on track.

    • Sounds good! Thanks for jumping in the bandwagon. Remember that if it is too complicated, just removing the categories except Category:Removed (or something similar) would be enough. Then all "deleted" pages would be in 1 category. Currently, people navigating spell categories can still land on the pages :/ But it is your call, hopefully you can make it work like you want.

On another note, the cleanup is nearing its' end, though the toughest templates are yet untouched. I have removed most unused/outdated non Wakfu templates. What remains are templates that I am slowly going through. Many have been renamed without being touched, but it is still good to see if improvements can be made. All the navboxes are done.

I forgot to ask what you thought of WData as a template prefix. This is for the "important" stuff, the templates that are used everywhere else in the website (Spellcard, Itemwrap etc). I thought of WObject, but that is weird for things like spells. Also WCard, but not everything is a card. Anyways, the WData templates (or whatever we rename them to) should be locked up when it is done.

For the tooltips, pretty much every spell AoE (WIcon/AreaOfEffect) needs it. By default the tooltips are positioned top, so it may work. We should probably place them left though. This will be a HUGE usability improvement, as nobody can see the nice AoE layouts we got.

Once all the "renaming/updating/cleaning" is done, I may focus on adding missing images, renaming images, and maybe switching to portable Infoboxes. The problem with those is they are square, so they kinda clash with the wiki site, and I really like the wakfu wiki style. More to come, current status: fighting with DPL in an equipment set table -___-

        Loading editor
    • Oh and I just saw you are renaming images. If you do so, can you use the exact page name for image names. That is what we need for DPL, ty :)

  • Hi, could you please delete these broken redirects: http://wakfu.wikia.com/wiki/Special:BrokenRedirects. Thank you.

Since most (if not all) original admins/contributors are gone now, it would be nice to do some cleanup/renaming in the templates. Currently it is chaos. I need to start with a fresh broken links page:)

I'd like to know what you think of:

    Wakfu_TemplateBaseName/Specification

This way, it is clear what is wakfu related and what is imported from other wikis. It should be mandatory to use full names, and not those cryptic single letter abbreviations (abominations). CamelCase and no spaces. A convention will also help eliminate duplicates, as it would be easyier to see what is available.

    So, for example:

    Template:I doll --> Template:Wakfu_Icon/Doll

    Template:ItemWrap.EquipTable --> Template:Wakfu_ItemWrap/EquipTable

    Template:M i fish --> Template:Wakfu_MapIcon/Fish

I don't expect to have the patience to go over everything and fix ALL the calls, but at least some of the really bad names. Really really really bad names (and lets not talk about coding style lol) ^_^

    • Deleted ItemWrap.EquipTableBags and it's test template along with the broken redirects, you can use the Template:Delete if you need something deleted and I will probably get to it within 24 hours since I check the wiki daily. The EquipTable template seems very useful way to standardize table across the wiki and is appreciated.

For the template naming convention I am not sure if adding "Wakfu" to the beginning of every template is needed, although if you see yourself importing a large amount of template from other wikis I guess that will be fine. Besides that it looks great and of course I will help out with renaming the templates.

        Loading editor
    • Just a quick follow-up, I fixed CraftUse ^_^. I added a comment with the explanation. What other template was having similar issues?

The reason to append Wakfu is, simply, because there are too many templates. I will slowly identify ones that aren't used and delete them. Hopefully cleaning up *a lot* of useless imported stuff (which we can allways reimport on a needed basis). After that, I will work on renaming. At the same time, templates like the icons would benefit from being consolidated to a single template with arguments (like I started with EquipTable).

Finally, the page Profession Booster is ready and can be linked too. Where you want to add is up to you :) Good day

    • More progress being made. Ty for all the deletes. I am waiting for the UnusedTemplates cache to reprocess the wiki for more. 2 quick questions:

      - Can you install the variables extension? https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Variables This will allow us to code "more normally". You know Java, so having access to, uhm, variables will definitely help throughout the wiki. Lets target clean, easily understandable and humain-friendly code templates :)

      - Do you still control WakfuBot? If I understand correctly, we can use that to rename everything? Right now I am fixing unused templates (WGatheringResources and WProfessionRecipes for example). But renaming is going to be a pain.

Finally, should we start every table with WTable? Examples, WTable/GatheringResources or WTableGatheringResources?

There is no need for short cryptic names as wikia has auto-completion. Typing W will output everything a user/contributer needs, but maybe we can add the Table to help users find the template they are looking for? Awaiting opinions, have a great day :)

    • I have been busy with school since I just moved in yesterday so sorry for the delay and the incoming inactivity you will be seeing from me. I will not be editing much for a while, but feel free to post on my wall like you did since I do get emails for them.

As for your post: I am unfamiliar with installing extensions but I will have a look at it tomorrow.

Yes I still control WakfuBot, I will approve your own bot on your other post. Renaming links/pages with it is pretty easy with AutoWikiBrowser.

WTables seem like a good idea as well.

  • I added a "type" parameter to ItemWrap.EquipTable. If it is empty, it acts as before (don't break articles using it). I will add more and more types, so we can use DPL as much as possible.

    Benefits:

    • 1 template for simple Item list (makes it easier for people who want to help).
    • Infinitely expandable.
    • 1 template to debug/remember.
    • Much much much easier maintenance. All we need is to edit items, and the more the wiki uses DPL, the more pages will allways stay up-to-date. So we don't get weird misleading tables anymore.

  • Hi, I am sure you are aware the wiki is filled with outdated, missing or misleading information. I am allready trying to revive things and have been working on the bag/boxes. I would like to edit the top menu (remove the Bag List as it is no longer necessary + was completely misleading/misinformation). I don't need/want any more rights than that.

Many images are missing, is there a small guide on how to extract images from the game? I would like to update as many as possible.

In hopes I can help revive this place a little :)

[edit] I found the image guide. Its wonderful what a little googling will do ^_^

    • Unfortunately it is not possible to give rights to edit on specific protected pages.

I have removed the Bags/list item from navigation and deleted the page since the page is redundant. Clicking on inventory bags will still link to Bags.

        Loading editor
    • Thank you, the offer to become admin still holds though, if you like my edits and my templates etc.

Another reason I would like to be admin is I need to edit ItemWrap. I use levels to sort my DPL table, but dpl doesn't support number ordering. Right now I've bypassed the issue using 01, 05 for levels. In ItemWrap, it would be really easy to add a sortlevel entry. With a simple #ifexpr, you could then return the normal level with 00 or 0 in front. Then in the templates that need sorting by level, just make that column invisible.

Anyways, think about it. I will continue to consolidate/update information as much as possible. I am also new to the game, so I change what bugs me and what information is misleading to new players. Have a great day o/

  • Hello Ronndo, I don't know if you know that, but the french wiki is currently inactive and the wiki creator is undeniable, the french wiki is really old, and there is so much work to do with it, so I decided to re-create a french version of the Wakfu Wiki and I would like to have the permission of the Admin of the English wiki

    • If you are new to Wikia they will not allow you to adopt one. Community Central is located here you can access it by scrolling to the bottom of any Wiki page as well. There is actually a article about what you can do for a Wiki besides adopting it and becoming an Admin on the front page of community central atm.

    • Oki Doki Thanks or the help I think that I'll wait a moment before adopting the Wiki Hope we will help each other to give the most accurate information for Wakfu Players
